Martin County's "Job Creation Toolkit" is paying big dividends.

The county's new-found ability to provide financial incentives to prospective and expanding businesses, which then are required to create a certain number of jobs at specific salary levels, is suddenly enabling the Business Development Board of Martin County to compete, at a higher level, for economic development projects.

MARTIN COUNTY —In the past few years, board members have seen scholarship recipients want to return to Martin County, but few professional opportunities existed. To offset that, board members worked with the Martin County Business Development Board and business leaders to identify seven sectors that could offer future careers locally. They chose: alternative energy; life sciences and health; information technology and digital media; environmental science; education; finance, and the arts.
