STUART, FL (August 30, 2011) – The Business Development Board of Martin County (BDBMC) today received word that five Martin County companies are recipients of the 2011 Governor’s Business Diversification Awards, a statewide program that recognizes Florida companies in emerging and high-technology industries for their contributions to Florida’s economic growth. Coordinated by Enterprise Florida, the awards presentation is held by the Governor annually during Florida’s Industry Appreciation Week in Tallahassee.
Martin County companies received awards in five of six possible categories. The 2011 winners of Governor’s Business Diversification Awards from Martin County are Optima Healthcare Solutions, formerly GiftRAP Corporation in the Business Expansion category; Florida RF Labs in the Business Innovation category; TurboCombustor Technology, Inc. in the Export Excellence category; Keller Medical in the Entrepreneurship category; and Southeastern Printing in the Green to Gold category.
Companies that vied for the Governor’s Business Diversification Awards competed with other companies, organizations, universities and colleges in markets similar to their own size. The market classifications were: Mid Market (county population up to 150,000); Major Market (county population 150,001 to 800,000); and Mega Market (county population 800,001 and higher). Martin County companies excelled over applicants from the 38 mid-market Florida counties.
Martin County was the only county in the state to have five award winners, nearly a clean sweep in the mid-market category. This is the fourth consecutive year that Martin County had more award winners than any other county in Florida and the fifth consecutive year that Martin County companies received awards. “It is a true testament to a thriving culture of innovation and entrepreneurship omnipresent in Martin County, that companies here, year-after-year, rise to the top,” said Crystal Stiles, Co-Director, Business Development Board of Martin County. “We are extremely proud of these companies for their outstanding impact on the economy of Martin County and their dedication to innovation and expansion.”
The Business Development Board of Martin County facilitated applications for many of the companies who participated in the process and authored letters of support to the Governor for each. “These companies join a growing list of Governor’s Award winners from Martin County. We wish all of this year’s award recipients much continued prosperity,” said Tim Dougher, Co-Director, Business Development Board of Martin County. “The success of these companies is evidence of a strong business community, an attribute we strongly tout when recruiting new companies to the area.”
Governor Rick Scott designated the week of September 12-16 as Business Appreciation Week. As part of the celebration, the BDBMC will host a luncheon on September 16 that will recognize the many contributions of local, existing companies from within targeted industry sectors. These companies provide quality jobs, help expand the local tax base and drive positive economic activity in virtually all sectors of our local economy.
